My ideas for my CD packaging relate around a summer compilation. Ive chosen to call it "Three months" songs of summer. The type of genre will be alternate/rock, suited for a BBQ atmosphere/ summer drive,- it will involve artists such as Powderfinger, Little Birdy, Eskimo Joe, Kings of Leon, Jack Johnson, Lily Allen, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Cold Play, Marshall and the Fro, Empire Of The Sun and Ben Harper etc. Album cover will have a relaxed, hot summer feel. Beach graphics, loose text. Simple feel. Template for the cover will be a triple flip-out cardboard cover to fit in with the earthy colours and simple layout. Some album covers which inspired me include:

I'm doing an album compilation by female artist only. The genre of music will range from contemporary artist like Bjork, easy listening -Missy Higgins and and Sarah Blasko, Jazz by Diana Krall and Katie Noonon, House and Dance by DJ Miss Behavin, DJ Rap and Miss Kittin.
For the design and colour as a whole, it will reflect all things feminine . I have'nt made my mind up regarding the colour palette but 'm thinking more the muted grays and blacks with a contrast of yellow or go with girly colour of pinks, purple, green and pale blue...but we'll see.

DECISIONS DECISIONS DECISIONS...
WHAT KIND OF MUSIC? MIXED/VARIOUS
WHAT KIND OF PACKAGING? PROBABLY THE WHOLE "CARDBOARD" THING
LOOKING FOR TEMPLATES. ANY IDEAS?
I AM THINKING OF DOING HAND ILLUSTRATIONS AND LOTS OF BRIGHT COLOURS.
PERHAPS A COMBINATION OF COMPUTER DRAWN AND HAND DRAWN. NOT QUITE SURE.
THEN AND NOW. WHAT I LIKE/D
JUST TOSSING SOME NAMES OUT THERE.
HOW DO I MAKE ONE?

Im doing an electro/house/techno, compilation CD, its going to be called "living electro", and it will comprize some of the world's best electro artist on one CD. The colour palette is going to be mainly going to colours from the colour spectrum, with imagery laser's, lights and of bright colours. With font colour is to be white, and the possible font's for the cover include "Capture It", "Urban Sketch". Im going to use a cardboard for the case for my album. "Excite your Mind"

Example Album Covers

luke: indie mix tape (on a disc)

my cd is going to be called indie mix tape (on a disc). I want it to be kind of funny/quirky in a way but not much. I like the idea of making the design out of place. The colours i'm going to be using are greys, black and white. I want it to be simple and mainly a texted based design, on the cd booklet and case. Jewel case (cliche), but im going to use it anyway. I think i'll use a few images that will be hand drawn and kind of scribbly. I want it to be kind of messy but clean at the same time.... so thats my main ideas hope it makes sense.

Melissa Mackie  post :1, Cd Packaging

I am liking a combination of ink and flat milky colours on a cardboard sleeve. Sketchy illustrations and possibly hand rendered type (not sure yet). I would like it to be simplistic. Maybe a drip of black ink with simple, grungy illustrations sprouting from it or maybe a light milky green illustration on cardboard. All of this is subject to change, however I am thinking of a compilation of laid back songs such as Nick Drake, Mazzy Star, Nick Cave, Paul kelly, PJ Harvey, Neil Young, Beck, The Gadflys, Billy Bragg, The Church, The Go Betweens......etc

I like the illustrations below for different reasons.

1
No:1     I like the graph paper. Thinking of incorporating graph and lined paper
 in the 8 page booklet.
N0:2    I love the simplicity and the boldness.

No:3   Again i like the simplicity and the look of black on cardboard.

No:4   I love the sketchy, grungy marks and the aged feel of the cover.

No:5  This is my favorite. I love the hand writing and the mood.

                                        No:6  ........
                                                              No:7 Colours are great
No:8 I Like the use of material and title

I am still pulling the ideas together but so far I am liking handwriting and the use of black ink on cardboard with flat milky pastel colours.  .........  Still thinking of illustration.
